Custom Logo Dice: Engraving Options for Brands and Studios

Custom engraving is what turns a generic gemstone die into your product. Almost every brand that orders from us changes something — a logo on the D20's 20-face, a custom numeral font, or artwork replacing the pips. Here is what is actually possible on natural stone, and what you need to supply.

What You Can Customize

Logo placement — most commonly the 20-face of the D20, the 1-face, or a blank side

Symbols instead of numbers — replace the top face with a crest, monster, or icon
Fill colour — engraved recesses can be filled to make the marks pop against the stone

How Engraving Works on Natural Stone

Engraving stone is not the same as printing plastic. We use laser engraving, which removes a controlled depth of material rather than sitting on the surface — so the mark cannot rub off.

Two things are worth understanding:

1. Stone is not uniform. Natural banding, inclusions, and colour variation mean the same engraving reads slightly differently on each piece. That is the nature of real stone, and most buyers consider it part of the appeal.

2. Contrast depends on the stone. A pale engraving shows strongly on dark obsidian or onyx and more subtly on light or heavily patterned stones like agate. We will advise on contrast when you pick your material.

Artwork Requirements

To get a clean result, send:

Vector files (AI, EPS, SVG, or PDF) wherever possible — they scale to the die face without losing edges
High-contrast, simple shapes — very fine hairlines and tiny text can lose definition at dice scale
The intended face and size — a D4 face is far smaller than a D20 face

If you only have a raster logo, send the highest resolution you have and we will advise whether it needs redrawing.

Sampling Before Bulk

Never approve engraving from a drawing alone. The normal sequence is:

1. You send artwork

2. We confirm feasibility and placement

3. We produce a sample on your chosen stone

4. You approve the physical piece

5. Bulk production begins

Samples are available before bulk production, and this step catches contrast and legibility issues that no on-screen mockup will show.
