How Crystal Dice Inspects Gemstone Dice Before Shipping
A look behind the scenes at the checks every gemstone dice order passes — measurement, surface, batch matching, and packaging — before it leaves our workshop.
Natural stone is never identical twice, so quality control on gemstone dice can't be a single pass with a caliper. It has to combine real measurement with the trained eye of someone who handles the stone every day. Here's roughly how an order moves through our checks before it ships.
Measuring the Geometry
Each die is checked against the approved sample for face geometry and key dimensions. The exact tolerance depends on the stone, the die shape, and what the order specifies — a D4 in amethyst and a D6 in tiger eye aren't held to the same numbers.
Surface, Polish, and Numbers
Next we look at the things a customer notices first: even polish, clean edges, sharp engraving, and consistent number fill. Natural inclusions are judged against the agreed material grade — we don't pretend a natural stone should look like injection-moulded plastic, but flaws outside the grade get pulled.
Matching the Batch
For sets and retail lines, stones are grouped so colour and pattern stay consistent across a tray. Where a buyer needs an exact look, we approve samples up front and match production to them.
Final Packaging Check
Before anything is sealed, we verify quantities, inserts, labels, protective material, and outer cartons against the order. It's the least glamorous step and the one that prevents the most complaints.
